John Sousa Arruda

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of John Arruda. He entered eternal rest on September 17, 2015 in Galveston, TX. He was 73. John was born in Portugal on May 31, 1942 to Mariono and Silvana. He was married to his wife, Maria for 51 years and together built a loving family. He was known to his family as “Uncle John” and was loved by all. John was a good husband, great father and of course a true gentleman. Family gatherings were treasured. He loved spending time with family and friends and would entertain them by playing the harmonica and dancing. John loved everyone and was a friend to all. Uncle John also loved hockey, his Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, country music, the beach, nature a camping. He was a great man gone too soon. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Nancy. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Cherie; grandsons, Alexander and Ryan; granddaughter, Elizabeth and an extended number of siblings and other family members. A Visitation will be held on Friday September 25, 2015 at Rhoton Funeral Home from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his honor at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church on Saturday September 26, 2015 at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Hilltop Memorial Park.
