Mr. Oommen served his country in the Indian Airforce and later became an Accountant. His home parish in India is St. Mary’s Orthodox Valiya Palli Ullanoor, Kerala, India. Since moving to Houston in the early 80s, he has been an extremely active and devout member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church Cathedral – Houston. Upon relocating to Dallas, he attended services at St. Paul's Orthodox Church in McKinney, Texas – a church family he held near and dear, as it was the first parish where his son served as a Priest.
Mr. Oommen is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Mathews; his daughters, Mrs. Binsa Joseph (Mr. Reji Joseph) and Mrs. Bini Matthews (Mr. Ribu Matthews); his son, Rev. Fr. Binu Mathews (Mrs. Jessica Mathews); and his brother, Mr. Thomas Mathew. He is also survived by his grandchildren Anil Joseph, Ajith Joseph, Angela Joseph, Ethan Matthews, Emma Matthews, Sarai Mathews, Lucas Mathews (also Godson), Levi Mathews, & Silas Mathews.
Mr. Oommen was preceded in death by his father Mr. Oommen Mathai and his mother Mrs. Aleyamma Mathai; his eldest brother Mr. Oommen C. Oommen; his brother Rev. C.O. Joseph Ramban and his brother Mr. C.O. Yohannan.
A visitation for Mr. Oommen will be held Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at St. Paul's Orthodox Church, 5088 Baxter Well Rd, McKinney, TX 75071.
A funeral service will occur Monday, October 23, 2023, from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 5088 Baxter Well Rd, McKinney, TX 75071. A committal service will follow at 1 PM at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 3900 Rowlett Rd, Rowlett, TX 75088 where he will be laid to rest.
