Michael Marlon Bush was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on August 27, 1960, and grew up primarily in Cypress, California. He passed away, unexpectedly but peacefully, on February 12, 2023, at his home in Carrollton, Texas.
Michael was a soft-spoken man and an old soul. He loved cheering on his California Angels and watching movies both new and old (but mostly old). He was happiest spending time with his daughter, his wife, and his pets. He loved everything Disney and Marvel, although of late he would share his opinion that Disney is going in the wrong direction. He was a pro at scouting out the best spot for watching the Disney fireworks, even during a hurricane. He recently became a fan of the Pocket Sandwich Theatre in Carrollton, attending a performance the Thursday before his death with his family.
Michael enjoyed the time he spent working over the years at Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion – he could still recite the opening monologue word-for-word – and Movieland Wax Museum, but was probably proudest of being a stay-at-home dad. Traditions were important to him, and while decorating the yard for the holidays was a lot of work (particularly the way he did it) he still did it every year, mostly to make his daughter smile. He had a big heart and wanted to save every cat he could, even though he had too many at home already. Heck, he was trying to pick up another one on Thursday.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Walter Clarence Bush and Helen Marie Summers Bush, of Cypress, California, and his brother, Roger Bush of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Teresa, and daughter, Madisen, of Carrollton, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Marsha Swinford, and her husband Bruce, and nieces and nephews Bruce Swinford, Jr., Brandon Swinford, and Brittany Torossian, all of Cypress, California, his sister-in-law Ria Bush and niece Sandy Cobin, both of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Michael specified that he did not want a memorial service, and his family will honor that request. We will treasure our happy memories and honor him by taking good care of these crazy cats.
