Brother B was born on December 14, 1925 in Magnolia, Texas to father, W.W. Baker Sr., and his mother, Viola Goodson Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Owen, Wayne and Hubert Baker, and two sisters Eva Armbrister and Laura McAdams. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucius Cornelia "Connie" of Farmers Branch, daughter, Linda Miller of Oklahoma City, his 3 sons & daughters-in-law, John & Randi Baker of Prosper, Mike & Lynn Baker of Southlake, & David & Susan Baker of Houston. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Rev. Baker was raised on a farm in Tomball, Texas, learning a strong work ethic by picking cotton, milking cows, raising chickens and multiple crops. He came from a strong Christian family that nurtured his love for the Lord and ultimately led to him being called to the ministry. At age 17, he hitchhiked to his beloved Baylor University where he began his formal training to become a Baptist minister. After graduation, he continued his studies at the Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth earning a Masters in Divinity. It was here where he met the love of his life, his dear "Nelia."
Dub took great delight in all the things involving his children. To this day his children still recall fond memories of vacations which coincided with the Southern Baptist Conventions. Once the children were out of the house Dub & Connie travelled all over the world with their friends. They enjoyed doing everything together.
Dub was a steadfast servant of the Lord pastoring churches all over Texas for 66 years. He was a powerful preacher who was true to the Bible in all of his teachings and yet a gentle shepherd to his flock. He was always faithful to his congregation especially in their times of need. People were drawn to him because of his joyful & fun loving spirit. Above all he loved serving the Lord with all of his heart. In his own words "my funeral is my coronation day & I fully expect to be with the Lord at this time so let it be a victorious service."
Funeral services will be held at The Village Church-Dallas Northway, 3877 Walnut Hill Lane, on Tuesday, May 30th at 10:00 am with reception to follow. Graveside service will be held at Restland Cemetery at 3 pm.
