

James “Jim” Nichols was born in Heavener, a rural town in Oklahoma. From the early years of Jim’s life, he worked hard for everything he had and wanted. He did everything from picking cotton to delivering the newspaper at an incredibly early age, which instilled a strong work ethic.
He had one brother and two sisters. Jim served in the Us Army from 1954 to 1957 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. During his time in the service, he was a communications operator doing Morse code and Communications Jamming. In the fall of 1956, he had his son (James Dean).
In the early 1960s he opened a mechanic shop with his best friend in California. As a mechanic he was dedicated to helping anyone who needed him, often educating and teaching others along the way. This is really when his generosity and care for others shined. In winter of 1960 is when he had his daughter (Holly Susan).
In 1963 Jim Moved back to Arizona making Casa Grande his permanent home in 1965 where he later became an Insurance Agent. Jim was eager to solve problems and get insurance for anyone who stepped foot in his office. He was often sharing his insurance education and knowledge while instilling in young people how important it was to have insurance. Thanks to his insurance career paths crossed where he met his wife, Diane. He later retired as an insurance agent.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a man of many passions. A licensed pilot since 1967. He owned several aircraft over the years. His pride and joy was his 1960 Beechcraft Debonair—a testament to his love for aviation. He would often be found at the Casa Grande Airport hanging out with fellow friends and pilots. Jim also restored classis cars and won several awards.
Jim and his wife Diane enjoyed traveling in their RV. They enjoyed camping with family and friends and playing the guitar around the campfire. One could often find them traveling across country sightseeing on their motorcycle. Jim had a deep appreciation for travel and exploration.
Family was central to Jim’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife Diane Nichols; son James D. Nichols; daughter Holly S. Nichols; grandchildren James T. Nichols, Lisa R. Sherwood, Chris Roye, Ian Boyd; and great-grandchildren Ariel N. Kostandin and Drake Sherwood. He was predeceased by his parents Benjamin Alfred Nichols and Mellie Nichols, siblings Harold Nichols, Joan Nichols, Rita Nichols.

Services will be held for Jim on Friday, February 27th, 2026, at 11am J. Warren Funeral Chapel 525 N Peart Rd. Casa Grande, AZ 85122.
