

Curt was born September 10, 1921 in Butler County, Missouri to George and Julia Shaffley.
Curt graduated from Neeleyville, MO high school where he still holds the high school basketball record for the most points scored in a year. Curt had just attended his 69th class reunion on Oct. 2 in Missouri.
Following graduation from high school, Curt joined the US Navy where he served in the South Pacific during WW II.
Curt was very proud to have been a fireman for the San Mateo, CA fire department. He retired as an assistant fire chief after 28 years of service . Curt said he loved being a fireman because you are always helping people and everyone is so glad to see you.
Curt was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent every year for 40 years at hunting camp in Montana. Curt had many, many hunting and fishing stories to share.
Curt married Luella Howell in 1947. They had two daughters, Cheryle Burse and Vickie Murray.
Curt married the love of his life, Julie Persoon, in 1986. They had 24 years of love and adventures together. Curt and Julie are owners of Good Health Nutrition Center, Centralia.
Curt’s smile, twinkling eyes, and ready wit will always be remembered by his granddaughters Gina Washington, Kelly Burse, Marnie Burse, Sarah Zimmerman; his great grandchildren Kiana Washington, Ian Brown, Caidyn Zimmerman; and his many family and friends.
A private celebration of Curt’s life is planned for the future.
