Dave was born January 17th, 1973 in Tacoma, Washington the son of Nancy and Eugene Deitz.
He was younger brother to Steven.
Dave was always an inquisitive child, loved the outdoors, gardening, and seemed to be born with a fishing pole in hand. One favorite memory is how he would gut fish and catalog the contents of their stomach.
It is no mystery that science would become Dave’s personal and professional passion.
Dave also had a sense of duty. He served in the United States Air Force immediately following high school graduation from Mount Tahoma High School in 1991.
He was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
This is how Dave ended up in Ohio and where he graduated from Ohio State with a Bachelor of Science in 1999.
This is also how a Tacoma boy met a Beavercreek girl.
These two met on the Ohio State University campus when Dave asked directions from Cassandra Ann Braun- soon to be the love of his life.
The first time Dave’s dad Gene met Cassie he said “you better reel her in, she’s a keeper.”
On July 9th, 2003 Dave married Cassie in a peaceful ceremony surrounded by nature.
They loved the hell out of each other for 15 years.
David was legendary in every area of his life:
He loved his wife with breathtaking devotion.
He was the home she had waited her whole life to experience.
Last summer they discovered Italy together and had the vacation of their lifetime.
He was a generous, loyal, and thoughtful son and friend, quietly providing in meaningful ways for those he loved.
His teaching was his calling. He was a masterful teacher who inspired students to do their very best work.
He taught over 1000 children to learn to love math and science.
He had a life-long love and passion for the outdoors that he shared with his wife.
Fishing was his happy place, and he spent his entire life seeking the very best fishing spot…
many times dragging Cassie along as she bundled up and read.
He is survived by his wife Cassie, his parents Gene and Nancy of Tacoma, WA, his brother Steven of Tacoma, WA, & the over 1000+ children who benefitted from his legendary teaching.
