Born April 9, 1938 Delbert E. Compton, but always preferred Del. He served in the Air Force for 8 years. He gave up his military career so he could secure custody of his children; Del Jr., age 5 and Valerie, age 3.
Nine days before his official discharge, he met Micky Brown in Abilene, TX. She was a single mother of 3; Michael, age 7; Sandy, 3 and Tom, 2. They dated for those 9 days, wrote letters for 8 months, then Micky loaded her kids on a Greyhound bus and moved to Tacoma, WA. They were married June 25, 1965. In August 1966 their 6th child, Melanie, was born.
Del worked at the Tacoma Smeeter, St. Regis Sawmill and Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1968 he went to work for Texaco Oil Refinery and moved his family to his hometown, Anacortes. He retired after 31 years.
Del loved his pool, his gardening and traveling across the country with Micky. He also served in the Red Cross.
Del and Micky raised six children and have had many, many children who adopted them as grandparents.
But they that wait upon the Lord
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.
