Born and raised in Charlotte, Buster was the beloved son of Thomas and Rosebud Tanner, growing up as one of nine children in a close-knit family. A proud graduate of Harding High School, Buster dedicated his life to serving his community as a Mecklenburg County ABC Agent, worked with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department, and continued his career with US Bonding, until he finally retired.
For 63 beautiful years, Buster shared his life with his devoted wife, LaLoy Tanner. Their bond was unbreakable, built on laughter, mutual respect, and a deep, abiding love that only grew stronger with each passing year.
Buster's greatest joy came from his family. He is lovingly survived by his daughter, Tammy Tanner Helms, who brought sunshine to his days; his cherished granddaughter, Amber Tanner Doster (Caleb); and his precious great-grandson, Cohen Dean Doster. He also leaves behind his two surviving siblings, RC Tanner (Lucille) and Charles Tanner (Linda), along with countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and warmth.
Buster was preceded in death by his beloved son, Eric Calvin Tanner, whose memory he carried in his heart every single day, as well as his parents and six siblings who welcomed him home.
Those who knew Buster understood that his true happiness came from life's simple pleasures. He found peace at the coast and spent countless hours casting his line off the pier. But nothing compared to the joy he felt when surrounded by his family and his beloved "grand dogs," especially Chloe Helms, who held a special place as the apple of his eye. His love for seafood, a great steak, and the sweet treats his daughter would lovingly bring him reflected his appreciation for life's delicious moments.
Behind Buster's gentle demeanor was a sense of humor that delighted those fortunate enough to witness it. He never hesitated to express his deep love for those who mattered most, leaving no doubt about the depth of his affection and care. His family describes a man who loved unconditionally and whose memory will forever be treasured.
Buster Tanner lived a life of purpose, love, and service. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him, and his spirit will continue to guide and comfort his family through the love he so freely gave. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten, as his love remains eternal in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service–Mint Hill Chapel. A funeral service will take place at the same location on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment at Sunset Memory Gardens.
"Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord."
