Carlos immigrated to the United States in 1954 starting his new life in Boston, MA. He was proud of his new country and the opportunities it provided. Taking advantage of that, he completed his GED, went to electronic school, earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The Eastern Nazarene College 1967, a Masters Degree from Boston State, and a Doctorate of Education from Boston University in 1976. He was “Dr. P” to students at Massasoit Community College, Bryan College, The King’s College, and Roberts Wesleyan College. Carlos was an educator always, whether teaching geometry or statistics to his college students (for over 30 years), showing his sons how to sail or change the oil, or (his favorite) guiding his grandchildren in changing batteries. As a follower of Christ, he stressed the importance of integrating his faith with learning. Besides teaching and sailing, he enjoyed cooking, cameras, and, above all else, serving others. Anyone, friend or stranger, could count on Carlos to show up, toolbox in hand and sleeves rolled up (sometimes in a clean Oxford shirt after class), ready to help.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Silvia de Macedo (Alceu, deceased) and Filomena Pereira; his brothers, Ildeberto (Cindy) Pereira and Livio Pereira.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Edith Pereira; his sons, Douglas Pereira (Karen) and Robert Pereira (Jill); his grandchildren, Elise Pereira, Luc Pereira, Ava Pereira, and Molly Pereira; his sisters, Arlete Mascarenhas (Albert, deceased), Gisela Silverio (Guy), and Auta Hendler (Robert); his brother, Viriato Pereira (Nancy); and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews, all of which brought him joy and pride.
