Mary Carolyn Houston Williams, 80 of Mint Hill, left this life to be with the Lord, whom she loved, on Wednesday October 5th, 2011. She was born March 27, 1931 in Atlanta, GA. She was the oldest daughter of Timothy and Mary Houston. Carolyn’s father worked for the TVA and moved his young family around the South until late 1941 when they finally settled in his hometown of Mint Hill, NC. Carolyn was a 1949 graduate of Central High School. She attended UNC-Greensboro where she met her future husband, Brice Williams, at a school dance. Carolyn and Brice were married in 1952 and were devoted to each other until his death in 2007. Carolyn worked as a legal secretary for several years, but her true calling was as a mother and grandmother. She stayed at home to raise her three children and loved taking care of her grandchildren too.
Carolyn was a long time member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church. Carolyn loved to read her Bible, mysteries and biographies. She enjoyed doing needlepoint and
cross-stitch. She loved family history and annual family reunions.
Today, Carolyn is enjoying a family reunion in Heaven with all her family members who have been waiting for her. She’ll be reunited with her sisters Clair and Catherine, her parents, and her husband Brice, whom she especially missed.
Carolyn will be missed by those who knew her as Mama and Nanny. Those that Carolyn leaves behind are her son, Richard Williams, and wife Carmen; her daughter, Mary Muehl, and husband Bruce; her daughter, Jennifer Engel, and husband Steve and her grandchildren: Shelley, Caroline, Melanie, Tim and Ben.
Carolyn’s children and grandchildren will miss her so much but are happy knowing that God has resurrected her life and has restored the memories that Alzheimer’s disease stole from her. She is now at peace and surrounded by her loving heavenly family celebrating everlasting life in the presence of God.
A service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 8th, 2011, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to her service. Reverend Dr. Chuck Williamson will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
