

Charles Clarence Brown, 77, of Charlotte, passed away on August 7, 2013 at Novant Healthcare in Matthews of liver cancer. He was predeceased by his father, C.C Brown and mother, Era S. Brown of Roanoke, VA, his father in law, Gene Hawthorne and brother in law, Gordon Hawthorne. Charlie attended the Roanoke Public Schools and was a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem, VA. He served in the Army National Guard for a number of years. After college he moved to Richmond, VA where he worked for The Bank of Virginia. He met his wife, Mary Fraher Hawthorne there. For the last 40 years, they have lived in Charlotte where he retired from First Union National Bank.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Fraher, his mother in law, Louise C. Hawthorne, sister in law, Mary Hawthorne; two nephews, Anthony and Andrew Hawthorne, great niece, Carsyn Hawthorne, all of VA; and a cousin, Florence Shimp of NJ. He is also survived by his best buddy, his dog, Teddy.
A memorial service will be held at one o’clock on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Matthews, 185 South Trade Street, Matthews, NC 28105 officiated by Rev. Ronald Gregory . A private inurnment will take place in VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Matthews P.O. Box 248, Matthews, NC 28106.
II Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved His appearing”.
