Reverend Curtis Garrison Long

He was born on Nov. 8, 1929, in Union County, NC, to the late D. Daniel and Hazel (Canupp) Long.

He married Doris Rorie on Feb. 4, 1950, at Charlotte, NC.

Rev. Long was ordained into the Southern Baptist Ministry at Sardis Baptist Church, Union County, NC. He attended Wingate, Campbell, Wake Forest Universities, and Fruitland Bible College. He served as a pastor of several churches throughout North Carolina, served in numerous official offices in the Southern Baptist Association of North Carolina, and was chaplain for Troy and Monroe Prison Ministries.

After retirement from the pulpit, Rev. Long continued his ministry by visiting nursing homes in the surrounding areas.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Doris R. Long, of Matthews, NC; his son Gary Long and wife Pam, Charlotte; his daughter Collette L. Mullis and husband

Gary Paul, Matthews, NC; two grandchildren, Karen M. Kent and husband Patrick and Jason P. Mullis and wife Tracy; seven great grandchildren, Ashley, Kevin, and Katie Kent; Samantha, Matthew, Doris Elisabeth, and LeAnna Mullis; his sisters, Evelyn Ray, Concord, NC, and Ruth Inman and husband Sam, Indian Trail, NC; his sister-in-laws, Edith T. Long, Indian Trail, NC, and Marceleen and Jean Rorie, both of Monroe, NC; and nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, from 1-2 p.m. at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mount Harmony Church Road, Matthews, NC, followed immediately by his service at 2:00 p.m. The service will be conducted by his pastor, Reverend Dr. Buddy Pigg and by his longtime friend, Reverend Jimmy Johnson. Interment will be in Mount Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Elliott Manor and Lake Park nursing facilities for their kindness.

Rev. Long was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Bill and Dowd Long.
