She was born in New York City on October 22, 1952 to Alexandria and Paul Hawkins. Lena received her RN from the Mercy School of Nursing and was a certified Orthopedic Nurse. She was also a nurse educator and mentor to many.
Lena married Nelson Haynes on March 17, 1982 in Charlotte. Together they enjoyed travel and family vacations in their 33 years together.
Lena had a talent for party and event planning. She also enjoyed gardening and working in the yard; making memories, spending time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her new grandbaby Carter Thomas Haynes.
Lena is survived by her husband Nelson Haynes; son Daniel Haynes; daughter Jessica Haynes; brothers Paul and Glen; sister Cheryl and many other family, friends, and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at McEwen Funeral Service in Mint Hill. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 13 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
