Darlene Marie Russell

Darlene Marie Russell, 70, of Midland, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May, 7th surrounded by those who loved her. She is leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, Darlene was the heart and soul of her family—an endlessly generous, compassionate, and loving woman who touched the lives of all who knew her.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Irene Beardsley (Pellegrini) and Donald Ferri. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 35 years, Randy Russell; her cherished daughters Stacey Andrews (Szoszorek) and Amber Zimmer; her adored grandchildren Ashley Szoszorek, Ian Lawrence, and Gabriel Lawrence; her treasured great-grandson, Greyson Raley. Her loving siblings Donald Ferri and wife Holly Ferri, Gail Fox and husband Virgil Fox, and Sandra Ferri and husband Wes Lester; and seven beloved nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews.

A proud matriarch, Darlene lived a life centered around her family. She found joy in the simplest pleasures—crocheting, knitting, baking, and most of all, spending precious time with those she loved. Her home was a sanctuary of comfort and care, always filled with the aroma of homemade treats and the warmth of her bright smile.

Darlene will be remembered for her sacrificial generosity, her nurturing spirit, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will deeply miss her steady presence and open heart.

A public visitation will be held on May 12th, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Rd. Mint Hill, NC 28277 to honor and remember Darlene’s extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in her memory, reflecting the giving spirit she exemplified every day.

She was deeply loved—and she will be dearly missed.
