

Donald Barry Herrington, of Charlotte, died Friday, September 26, 2025.
Don was born January 31, 1940, in Rowan County, NC and was a graduate of John Nichols High School at the Oxford Masonic Orphanage in Oxford, NC. He began working for Mecklenburg County Tax Assessor’s Office in 1960 as a Real Property Appraiser. He retired after 48 years of service. He was an Army Veteran, serving 6 months active duty and 8 years in the reserves. He had a love for animals, especially cats, taking in and lovingly caring for the felines that had the good fortune of finding their way to his doorstep. He also enjoyed the wildlife in the woods near his home. He enjoyed classic movies, especially westerns, with the “good actors” and the old reruns of Gunsmoke, Wells Fargo, The Andy Griffith Show and Perry Mason just to name a few. He enjoyed attending western shows and had a vast collection of western books and memorabilia.
He is survived by his sister, Pat Jackson (J.D); niece, Sherry Mault (Eddie), niece Jennifer Gray (Trevor) and nephew, Jim Herrington. He was predeceased by his brothers, Fulton Herrington, William Herrington, and Terry Herrington.
A Celebration of Don's life will take place on October 29, 2025, at 1:00PM at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road Mint Hill, NC 28227. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Humane Society, Samaritan's Purse or the charity of your choice.
