

Born October 17, 1933 in Concord, North Carolina, Don was a son of the late Gary Antonio McCarver and Jettie Anderson McCarver. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was owner and president of Mid-South Erectors, Inc. Don helped build the ball fields and sponsored many sports teams at Piedmont Recreation Association. He was inducted in the National Softball Association Hall of Fame and was a member of Long Creek Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Lanier McCarver, his brother, Robert McCarver, and sisters, Grace Babb and Louise Romines.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Anita Tipton McCarver; daughters, Donna McCarver Oxendine and husband, Troy, and Kari McCarver Holshouser and husband, Dexter; brothers, Harry McCarver and wife, Betty, and Johnny McCarver and wife, Doris; sisters, Betty Davis and Lena Doster; grandchildren, Jonathan Oxendine and wife, Andrea, Megan Oxendine Lemmond and husband, Josh, Dylan McCarver, Tyler Belk and Colton Belk; great-grandson, Korbin Oxendine; and step-grandchildren, Harland and Hattie Holshouser.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, at Hopewell Baptist Church Legacy Campus on Hopewell Church Road, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Dr. Lee Pigg and the Rev. Jim Couick will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
