

Emma Lou “Toot” Benton Stansell, 94, of Mint Hill, daughter of J. Zimmerman and Emma Benton, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin “Buck” Stansell; son, Gerrald Stansell, son in law, Donald Gardner; her parents, brothers; Johnny, Junior, Morris and sisters; Annie, Martha, Daisy Lee and Kathryn. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Larry (Kay) and Kenneth (Pamela) Stansell, daughters; Lynda Gardner and Vickie (Ken) Jamison, 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 1 great -great grandchild, brothers; Calvin, Ray and Jerry Benton and sister, Carolyn Hartis.
Emma Lou was a long standing member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, the Fred Brown Sunday School class, past PM of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Gold Star Mother and past President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Mint Hill.
She loved life and enjoyed her times in the “Jolly Good Timers”, the “Ding-A-Lings” and was a Bronze Star medal winner in the Senior Olympics.
The family would like to express our appreciation to her caregiver, Brenda Romero and Lake Park Nursing and Rehab Center for their excellent care during our mother’s last days.
Services will be held at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church 11501 Bain School Road Mint Hill, NC 28227 April 24, 2012 with visitation beginning at 1:00pm and memorial service at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in Mint Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation www.alzinfo.org.
