

Geneva "Joy" Shue, 65, of Matthews, North Carolina passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, May 1, 2023 after an 8 month battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. She was born on August 17, 1957 to Henry and Evelyn Graves.
Joy grew up on McAlway Rd in Charlotte and many of her childhood memories were at Oakhurst park with family and friends. She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1975 and worked at Presbyterian hospital, now Novant, for 33 years.
Joy met her husband over 45 years ago, spending their first date together on Valentine's day and marrying a year later on February 11, 1978.
Joy loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and her best friend, Jan Hayes. She loved nature, especially gardening and bird watching, vacationing to the beach or camping, and going to see live music like Mother's Finest, Fleetwood Mac, and James Taylor.
Joy is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Robbie Shue; her children, Taylor Jarina (Matt), Daniel Shue (Jenni), and Jillian Brawley; her grandchildren, Cameron Jarina, Mason Shue, Coy Shue, Wyatt Jarina, Eva Brawley, and Avery Brawley; her brothers, Larry Graves (Christy) and Nelson Graves (Lisa); her sister, Amy Watts (Jerry); her two dogs, Chief and Sawyer; and many other loving extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC. A visitation will be held prior from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
