Gerry was born on May 5, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from St. John's Catholic School for Girls, where her teachers, the Sisters, made a lasting impression. Upon graduation, Gerry moved to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI and it was there that the vivacious, outgoing Gerry met, a quiet, soft spoken young man from North Carolina. The couple, still just teenagers, married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Washington on September 4, 1948. After leaving Washington, the couple lived for a short time in Omaha, where they welcomed their first child, before settling in Charlotte where two more children followed. Gerry, never one to sit on the sidelines, worked as a full time mom and was a medical secretary at the Nalle Clinic and Mercy Hospital. She had an active social life singing barbershop harmonies with the Sweet Adelines, was a member of the American Business Women's Association, organized blood mobiles for the American Red Cross and was a member of Seniors Aging Gracefully of Lake Park. She loved music, movies and ballroom dancing.
Gerry is survived by her husband of 68 years, Hugh Hennessee; daughter Karen Drakulic and her husband George; son, Michael Hennessee; daughter Lorie Burns and her husband Doug; grandsons, Jonathan Hinkle, Spencer Burns, and Griffin Burns; and great grandchildren, Savannah and Kaiden Hinkle.
