

Hal attended public schools in Salisbury, NC and graduated from Boyden High School. He was employed by Phil’s Shoes in Salisbury as a teenager and continued to maintain his career in that field becoming manager of multiple stores in High Point, NC. He managed Hahn Shoes at Eastland Mall in Charlotte until the store closing giving him 35 years of management. He moved on to an 18-year career with Ludwig, Smith and Walker as a sales representative until his retirement.
Hal was born in Salisbury to the late Hal Clark, Sr and the late Margaret Rimer Clark in May, 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Allen Clark in May, 1966. He is survived by his wife Brenda, his daughter, Shelia Dence (Steve), his brother Kary Clark (Anita), his grandsons Reece Appling (Vanessa), Clark Appling (Bailey), Aidan Dence (Griffin), and Lily Dence.
Hal very passionately loved his family. Sunday night “family dinner” was always very special to him. He was an excellent cook who loved to share with others. Hal never met a stranger. He gained great joy from the jovial side of life. It gave him so much pleasure to be able to bring a smile to someone’s face. He was also quite talented as a woodcarver. He made many pieces for family and friends.
There will be a casual drop-in celebration of life for Hal Sunday, July 20th from 1:00 to 4:00PM at McEwen Funeral Service- Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road Mint Hill, NC 28227.
