Helen Carson Morrow, born October 21, 1925, in Lone Star, South Carolina, died peacefully in her sleep on October 21, 2016 at her residence of the past year in Suwanee, Georgia, after a courageous fight with cancer. Helen was a previous resident of 39 years of Matthews, North Carolina, where she was preceded in death in 1997 by her loving husband of 47 years, Gene Morrow.
Helen was an active volunteer at the Matthews Help Center, where she worked on a weekly basis for over twenty years. An active and faithful servant to God and the Morning Star Lutheran Church, and leader in the church community, Helen strived to make all feel welcome, and along with her husband Gene, was a fixture in the Morning Star church community. Those in need of a comforting word, a smile, or a hug, could always depend on Helen to be there for them and their families. Until the age of 88, she served as the coordinator for bereavement meals for families, as well as for members in need of assistance due to illness or loss. Ensuring that she remained able to serve her community, Helen was also a fixture at the Matthews Curves facility, where she was recognized as the most active member on numerous occasions, and was an inspiration to all she encountered. The Curves community has maintained loving contact with her even after her move away from Matthews. She spread the light of her personality and her love of God in all things and among all the people that she touched. We will all remember her never-ending smile, eyes that lit up and glowed, and a spirit that soared with God’s best angels. Her welcoming arms touched our hearts and bonded our souls. She taught us how to love life through her example as her passion for life and helping others was infectious.
Helen was loved by everyone who knew her and has left an indelible and beautiful mark on this world. Surviving Helen are her three loving children Deborah M Baker (James Baker) of Savannah, Georgia, Ron E Morrow (Bonnie Adams) of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Shay Murphy (Scott Murphy) of Alpharetta, Georgia. Helen was also very fortunate to have five grandchildren (Daniel Baker (Heather), Camille Baker Connor (Bob), Sarah Murphy, Adam Morrow, and Emily Morrow,) as well as six great grandchildren.
Helen is forever tied to the communities of Lone Star and Elloree, South Carolina. She is survived in the Low Country area by her nephew Aubrey King (Vivian) of Gilbert, nephew Jerry Dibble Carson (Betsy) of Elloree, niece Jane Carson of Elloree, and their loving families and friends. Helen always referred to Lone Star as “down home”, and will return to Pine Grove Lutheran Church, where she will be laid to rest with her husband Gene, where they were married and began their journey in 1950.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday, the 25th of October, 2016 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
