Janice Carriker Ivy

Born on August 5th, 1938 in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Hoyle D. Carriker and Grace T. Carriker.

She and her family moved from Charlotte to Chimney Rock in 1945. Jan graduated from Warren Wilson High School and Warren Wilson College.

After graduation, Jan returned to Charlotte and while working at Industrial Piping Supply Company's corporate office, she met her future husband, O. Kenneth Ivy. Ken and Jan were married on April 21st, 1962 and developed their business, Idlewild Country Club in Mint Hill, NC soon thereafter. Along with managing their business, Jan was also very involved teaching Sunday School and being on several committees with Oakhurst Baptist Church. She was an avid equestrian: enjoying dressage and riding on the beach with her horse Max as well as teaching lessons at Meadowbrook Riding Stables. Jan was a loving wife, devoted mother and an encouragement to everyone who was fortunate to know her.

Jan is survived by her husband, Orion Kenneth Ivy of Matthews, NC; her children, James Ivy (Lachlan) of Savannah, GA, Keith Ivy of Matthews, NC and Jennifer Ivy Williams (Peter) of Charlotte, NC; and her brother, Walker Carriker of Hendersonville, NC. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Frances C. Taylor, Wayne A. Carriker and Theodore “Teddy” Carriker.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Oakhurst Baptist Church, with a funeral service immediately following at 2:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Pastor Wayne Deffinger will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. A reception will be held at the church following the burial.
