Jean graduated from Weaverville High School in Weaverville, NC. Her adoptive family was very supportive of her through some early health challenges. She earned her first job at Manor Theater in Charlotte and went on to work for the City of Charlotte as a clerical verifier. She enjoyed working at the Cam'ron Brown Building until she retired in 1986. She met one of her best friends later in life (2010), Robin Ballard, and the two remained close until Jean was called home to Heaven.
Jean married Max Hunter when she was 26 years old and they had a son, Stephen Hunter, who would stay by her side for her entire life. He was not just her caregiver but would make it possible for Jean to fix discarded toys for an orphanage, crochet hats for the homeless shelters, and get Christmas trees for area churches and friends.
Jean also had a love for animals but most of all, she loved her family. Her compassion and strong work ethic will be missed by all who knew her.
Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Max Hunter; her parents, Earl and Fannie Fonda; and her brothers, Avery Fonda and Alan Fonda.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Hunter; her friends, Tammy Cloninger, Doris Criminger, Carolyn Sanford, Robin Ballard, and Jim Peniston; and many other loving extended family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC. A visitation will be held prior from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
