

Mr. Griffin, 69, of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 at his home.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:30 P.M. Sunday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road. A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 1, at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
Born August 26, 1941 in Charlotte, NC, Mr. Griffin was a son of the late Thomas Triss Griffin and Madolyn Britt Griffin. He graduated East Mecklenburg High School in 1959 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was honorably discharged in 1967. He formerly owned Hickory Grove Gulf and Hickory Grove Restaurant, before opening J.O. Griffin Construction Company. Mr. Griffin was a member of Oasis Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps and attended Eastside Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rena “Bobbi” Griffin, whom he married May 31, 1968; daughter, Cheryl Ann Windham and husband, David; two granddaughters, Brittany Kayla Windham and Karlie Cheyenne Windham; brother, Robert “Bobby” Griffin and wife, Linda, of Stanley; sisters, Judith Elaine Elliott and husband, Rus, of High Point, and Nancy Louise Tyson of Salisbury; and a special brother-in-law, Robert “Tommy” Poole.
