John was born on December 30, 1951, in Corry, Pennsylvania and he was the eldest of six children.
After leaving Pennsylvania, John lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, and then in Florida, where he worked for City Electric, before returning to Charlotte to be close to his father. He was a kind, gentle soul with an infectious laugh who loved his family. He had many hobbies, including remote-controlled planes, making international connections over HAM Radio, electronics, camping in the Alleghenies and Linville Falls areas, hiking and photography. He documented several family occasions throughout his life, which his family will all cherish immensely, and he enjoyed setting up cameras around his property so that he could fill us in on what deer had babies or which squirrel rang his doorbell. John almost always had a smile on his face, and he was the first to wish a Happy Birthday. He absolutely loved his grandchildren, Jarod and Mikayla,as well as his daughter, all his nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful sister Marcie; his son, Joshua; nephews, Mike and Matt Howard; and his beloved parents, Jim and Mary Ellen Jansen. He is survived and missed tremendously by his daughter, Tracy (John) of Lexington, North Carolina; grandson, Jarod (Kaitlyn) of Lexington, North Carolina, and granddaughter Mikayla of Lexington, North Carolina; his brothers, Bob (Marilyn) of Pittsboro, North Carolina and Rick (Cathy) of Blythewood, South Carolina; sisters, Jane (John) of Port Richey, Florida and Kathy (Lee) of Charlotte, North Carolina; all his nieces, nephews, great-nephews and his good friends, Paul and Glenn.
He will be laid to rest next to his parents. The family will have a private service and will be honoring him with a warm bonfire on a cool night, sharing many stories and memories.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to North Carolina Wildlife Federation , https://ncwf.org/membership-giving/.
