During his time at IBM, he was awarded numerous patents through the US patent office.
Leonard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed playing various musical instruments, gardening and flying model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife Mary of 58 years; brother Albert Wallace; daughter Nannette (Tom) Gorman; sons Doug (Debbie) Wallace and Tim Wallace; grandchildren Patrick, Brendan, and Caroline Gorman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12pm on Monday, November 9, 2015, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Charlotte.
There will be a reception after the Mass in the church hall.
Interment will follow reception at Sunset Memory Gardens.
