Lillian was born on March 16, 1928 in Sarasota, Florida, to Mary and Lyle Beman. She grew up in her beloved hometown of Rogersville, Tennessee, and attended Tennessee Wesleyan University before relocating to Charlotte with her husband, Charles L. Hood.
In 1963, Lillian opened The Dutch Shop, a clothing boutique in Matthews, which she operated for 21 years. In retirement, Lillian became a general contractor and also started a catering business with her daughter, Janelle. Her greatest passion was gardening. She was happiest tending to her enormous collection of azaleas.
Lillian was a longtime member of Matthews United Methodist Church. She ran the Matthews Youth Fellowship for years with the help of her close friend, Betty Conder. In her 70s and 80s, Lillian volunteered at the Matthews Help Center, an organization that was close to her heart.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and her son, Jacob J. Hood.
She is survived by her brother, Lew Beman, of Seneca, South Carolina; daughter Janelle Hood, of Indian Trail; grandchildren Clancy Nolan, Piper Anderson, Lauren Hood and Richard Hood, and many great grandchildren, cousins and friends. She will be missed dearly.
A memorial service for Lillian will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 1:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Matthews Help Center (https://matthewshelpcenter.org/).
