Lucille Bentley Branham, age 93, of Matthews, NC, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025. She was strong and certain in her faith. In her last few years, she would often say "When Jesus is ready, I'm ready."
Born on October 25, 1931, in Letitia, Kentucky, to the late Wes and Carrie Bentley, Lucille was the eldest of eight children—a role she fulfilled with wisdom, responsibility, and enduring love. After growing up in South Shore, KY, she became a Navy bride and lived in many places throughout the U.S. She resided for many years in Franklin, TN before settling in Matthews, NC, where she spent her later years surrounded by family, community, and friends.
Lucille was a lifelong learner and a firm believer in personal growth. She was best described as a mentor and listener—someone who not only bettered herself but uplifted those around her by example and encouragement. Her independence and inner strength were evident to all who knew her.
Lucille was a member of the Charlotte Newcomers Club and attended Hopewell Baptist Church of Monroe, NC. She enjoyed playing bridge and other card games, crocheting, and participating in neighborhood activities that brought people together.
She will be lovingly remembered through the beautiful quilts she crafted and the skills and knowledge she passed on as she taught others the art of quilting. Her legacy is her unwavering generosity and the support she offered to friends and family alike. Lucille had a gift for making others feel heard, valued, and loved.
Lucille leaves behind a life rich in kindness, connection, and significant impact. Although she spent many years in Tennessee and North Carolina her heart still bled Kentucky Blue.
