Lurlene "MamaLene" Wells Hamilton was born on September 17, 1929 to Louis Wells and Sarah Hunter Wells in Martinville, Louisiana. She was one of 14 children, raised with her 8 sisters and 5 brothers. Her late husband, James C. Hamilton, Jr., her son, James "Hamp" C. Hamilton, III, her parents, sisters and brothers, and a great-grandchild, Ethan Govan, predeceased her.
As a child of God, MamaLene, accepted Christ in her life at an early age after she was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Louisiana. After her marriage to James, the couple moved their growing family to Laurens, South Carolina. MamaLene took great pride in her love of growing children. Aside from the love she gave her family, she established a home daycare in order to extend her love of raising children. MamaLene always put God and family first. She had a genuine love for caregiving and she periodically worked in the nutrition department of daycares and nursing homes, cared for her siblings, and held a great special love and affection for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. MamaLene loved cooking, sewing, spending time with her family and watching her daytime television.
She leaves to cherish her memories:
