She was born on May 15, 1933 to Walter and Lois Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Benton Jr., two brothers and seven sisters. She is survived by her son, David Benton (Diane) and daughters Janet Almond, Cheryl Benton (Jay) and Teresa Wilson (Davis) and her sister Malinda Benfield, as well as her eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mabel was someone who never knew a stranger and loved all. She was a “greeter” at her church and welcomed and loved on everyone that came through the doors each week and was also a home visitor. She lived Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Everyone was always welcome at her home and because of this she was known as Mama Mabel to many. She had a great sense of humor. She was independent and strong and a crazy driver. She loved to volunteer, whether it was a blood drive at her church or visiting the shut ins. Most of all, Mabel loved Jesus!
