

Maida Evelyn Long McComb passed peacefully early February 5, 2021. She was the last of nine children born on June 27, 1931, to William David Long and Blanche Huntley Long in Mint Hill Township, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William Kemp Long and his wife, Addie Mae McGee Long, sister, Nellie Blanche Long York and her husband, William John York, sister, Winnie Ruth Long, sister, Frances Edith Long Williams and her husband, Leonard Augustus Williams, brother, Thomas Paul Long and his wife, Dorothy Lee Mullis Long, brother, Donald Franklin Long and his wife, Colene York Long, sister, Martha Elizabeth Long, brother, David Carlton Long and his wife, Eloise Harrell Leonard Long.
Maida is survived by her devoted husband, Harvey Ellis McComb, III, children; Harvey Ellis McComb, IV, Diane McComb Clontz, Gail McComb Suddreth and her husband, Tom Suddreth, Eric Wayne McComb and his wife, Christi Belk McComb. Surviving also, are 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Maida graduated from Fairview High School in Union County, NC, and King’s Business College in Charlotte, NC. She worked a brief time for the John Hancock Insurance Company. She was devoted to God, husband, and family. Maida will be remembered as a wonderful cook and homemaker. Her family will always fondly recall the delicious meals she tirelessly prepared every Sunday until Parkinson’s disease rendered her incapable. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the very end. Her eyes would brighten whenever they entered the room.
Maida and her husband Ellis would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary June 2, 2021. They diligently worked side by side, made a home, grew their own vegetables, and even raised their own beef cattle. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her family’s clothes. She loved to sing hymns, and on many occasions, when there was a gathering at the home, she would usher everyone into the living room to sing.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, 7632 Hood Road, Charlotte, NC.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers that cared for Maida during her extended illness, allowing her to remain at home for the duration of her battle with Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, the family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care Carolinas Region for their support in the final weeks of her life.
Memorials in Maida’s name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
