Margie loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, her family, and her many friends. She always put others first. Margie taught her children and family about God’s love and was a wonderful Christian role model to everyone she met. The Bible says, “Absent from the body and present with the Lord” and we know that we will be with our “Little Margie” again one day. Margie was a member of Gloryland Baptist Church and also a member of the Love Sunday School Class at Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, James B. Jones (Jimmy); her precious 10 year old daughter, Carolyn; her mother, Ollie Calloway Beaver; her brother, J.D. Calloway; and many of her Homekid brothers and sisters.
Margie is survived by her three daughters, Janet Smith (Buddy), Nancy Hamilton (Gary), and Teresa Thomas (Bill); grandchildren, Bryan Smith (Cindy), Darin Smith (Sherry), Gary Hamilton, Jr. (Jennifer), Russ Thomas (Cody), Mark Thomas (Meredith), Robby Thomas (Keri), Zach Thomas, and Jacob Thomas; uncle, John Sietmann; nine great-grandchildren. Margie is survived by her brother, Ray Calloway, and special nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many treasured friends and her Homekid brothers and sisters.
Margie graduated from the Junior Order Home in Lexington, NC in 1943. She loved her Homekid life where she had many to call Brothers and Sisters. The Junior Order Home is where Margie met her husband. She returned to the Home for a Homekid reunion every year, not missing one for the past 50 years. She kept in touch with many of her Homekid family by phone on a day-to-day basis. Margie was very proud to be a Homekid and had said on many occasions she couldn’t imagine her life without being a Homekid. One of Margie’s favorite quotes and actions was “Hug a Homekid” and that is just what she did.
A service to celebrate Margie’s life will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at McEwen – Mint Hill Chapel with Pastor Sammy Case officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Nancy and Janet would like to thank their sister, Teresa, for the wonderful care she gave their beloved mother and for being there for her 24-hours a day during her illness. A special thank you to nurse, Ruth, from hospice for her love and care.
Memorials may be made to Mint Hill Fire and Rescue, Gloryland Baptist Church or Hospice and Palliative Care- Charlotte Region.
