Mike was the greatest boss, mentor and friend. His influence and leadership impacted my life significantly. I wish cherish the memories of Thompson Financial Group forever.  Myrtle Beach, dueling pianos, golf events, company dinners, etc

Wow!  Mike was responsible for two of the most important career events in my life.   First, he took me on in late 1998 as a Financial Advisor/401k Sales rep, even knowing I had no real sales skills (ask Randy).  Without his support and those in his agency, I would have failed.  I called it a "personality" driven agency and the culture was supportive, nonjudgemental and fun- and we were pretty darn successful!  And secondly, he introduced me to my current partner/assistant in 2004, who has helped accelerate my career and keep me in line.  Both of these were profound gifts.

The best way to describe Mike was that he was one of those people that would "light up the room" when he walked in.  He always reminded me of Kenney Rogers (and Mike could sing too!)

Beach trips, Roaring Gap, the Best Tail Gates, Panters Football, Wine Dinners, etc (I could go on), were all examples of how Mike liked to share the wealth and camaraderie with those he cared about.  

I was exasperated, frustrated and heartbroken when he left New England and went through Purgatory (Principal) and nobody was happier when he came back.  

We had watched 911 together in his training room at the Coloney Road office, and just watched in awe as we thought our lives would never be the same again.   Mike's optimism reminded us they would be.  
Lori was so happy that through Mike and Chris, we met John and Lynn (rest in peace), who became a dear friend of hers. And Nick and Barbara, among many others.  Just another example of how Mike would bring people together.  And we are all better because of it.

I owe a lot to you Mike, realizing it more as I had time to think about this.  So thank you for what you have done for me and my family and Thank You for BEING YOU!  The memories live on...

I've known Mike since elementary school and our days growing up on Finchley Dr. in Charlotte. I always tell the story about trick or treating at his house where they always gave out Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Several of us on the street figured out that if we went late, Mike would let us have the left overs (usually a whole dozen)! Thanks for the memory Mike. Thoughts and prayers are with the entire Thompson family.

I’m so sorry to hear about Mike’s passing.  Mike was bigger than life.  He could own any room that he walked into, but also made sure that every person in that room was happy.   Mike treated everyone the same and always looked out for the little guy, the quiet person in the corner, and the employee on the lowest rung.   We worked closely together for many years and I was always amazed at how positive he was about everything.  He knew how to enjoy life.  Mike packed  ten lifetimes of fun into his 70 years. I will always be grateful for the opportunities he gave to me and for his unwavering friendship.  God bless.

Mike was an uncle who loved unconditionally. Every Thanksgiving we cherished his joking, doting, and incomparable football-watching. He was always loved by the kids, whether for the GameStop trips, guitar lessons, or patience with our meltdowns (including me throwing quesadillas…). The McNulty Thanksgiving get-togethers will not be the same without his presence, and we already miss him dearly.

Too many beautiful and special memories to count. An amazing man full of love, happiness and cheer. How we loved spending time with Mike and Kris. Always a forever memory. Know God welcomed you with open arms and heaven is an even more special place since you are there. Hearts are so sad but full of the privilege of knowing and loving you. 🙏💕Carroll & Elaine Little

We have great memories of times shared with Mike and Kris on the golf course and in the mountains - sharing lots of wine and singing BeeGees music. He was one of a kind  taken too early and will be greatly missed.

Im not even sure where to start.. There are so many happy memories but one i can't forget.. When he lived in his old house in ballentine he would sit in his chair and watch Home Renovations or something like that, Me and my sister had sleepovers there and he would make cookies and let us decorate them. its something i won't forget because he was SO happy! I love you pawpaw! ❤️

I met Mike in school and I remember other guys telling me he was a real tough guy. As I grew older and got to know Mike more those stories faded away and I got to know one of the nicest guys I ever met. From the diners with Mike & Kris to some boating up on Lake Norman, going to the US Open in Pinehurst we always had a great time. After I learned that Mike was ill our talks turned to serious subjects and I appreciated the times we spent together on the phone. And during all those calls he always mentioned his family and what was going on, always happy and always upbeat, being a fighter.

Mike was an inspiration to me to live the best life I could and never, never give up. I will truly miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I ran into Mike at a restaurant in Mint Hill about 8 months ago. We had talked about playing  down in Hilto Head but it didn’t work out. I hadn’t seen him in 50 years but he recognized me and came over to introduce himself and we talked for several minutes. 
Mike was a good person and I wish I had known him better. He introduced us to his wife and son and we talked about the PIT!
We talked a couple of times on the phone and he told me that he was sick and would call me back.

Not many people go through life with a friendship and bond as I was so lucky to have had with Mike.
We had so many laughs and fun in our early years at school and after.
Mike made his life so filled with a beautiful family.He traveled around the world and this is what he loved so much.
His kids and grandkids loved him so much.This is what he talked about.his heart full of love,happiness,care,he shared with all.
I will miss him dearly.
I will always have our memories in my heart.
An angel is watching over his family.
I know this is breaking their hearts.one day we will see him again,listen to his guitar, laugh at his stories,and I can pick on him again.
He has already met Jesus. What a blessing!

I had the privilege of working for Mike for almost 10 years before we both decided to 'retire', although he never stopped working because he loved what he did so much. You'll never find a more caring, thoughtful, generous, hilarious, interesting, and pure genius of a man to work alongside. As a business owner, he knew it was a lot of work but the opportunities he tried to give so many of us throughout the years and the lives he changed was what made it worth it. He always said if you do right by everyone you meet, that's how you can sleep good at night. I never saw him do anything but exactly that.  I am one of those people who is a better individual for having known Mike Thompson and he will forever hold a huge place in my heart. Love, always.

While working for Mike, he became like part of the family for our 2 girls, Bella and Ella. This first trip to Mike and Kris' mountain cabin was when they started calling him Papa Mike. They will cherish his fun and kind spirit always and are looking forward to hugging him again in heaven one day.

Mike was my first childhood friend that I originally met when we were in second grade together. We subsequently formed a steadfast friendship, having many terrific times together. He was my first room mate right out of high school, also a period of fun and good memories. I hadn't seen Mike in many years, but fortunately got to speak to him on the phone recently. We planned to meet for lunch, but sadly it didn't come to fruition before his last hospitalization. Condolences to Mike's loved ones, and thanks Mike for the great memories, and the time we shared as friends.

My deepest sympathies to all of you.  I was lucky to meet and get to know Mike and always enjoyed meeting up and talking with him.  I was stunned to hear this news and just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss.
