Nicki was born on July 12, 1946 in San Francisco, California to the late Nickolas and Doris Ortner. She grew up in San Rafael, California and graduated from San Rafael High School in 1964.
She married the love of her life, Michael, in 1965 and together they had two children, Sean and Shannon. Nicki embraced motherhood and was very active in her children's lives. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Austin, Taylor and Trevor, and great grandmother to Ruby and Maisie. Mike and Nicki loved to travel together and every place was a new adventure. She especially enjoyed their time spent on the coast and their trips to Europe.
Nicki loved to host parties and get togethers for her loved ones and friends, especially during the holiday seasons. She was creative and fun-loving, and she had a love and talent for decorating. After moving to Mint Hill, she attended Providence Road Church of Christ and cherished the friendships she made with her book club and the women in the Mint Hill Commons Women's Group. In her last few years, she especially enjoyed spending time in her backyard with her sweet dog, Romeo, feeding and watching the birds, squirrels, deer and rabbits.
In addition to her parents, Nicki was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Michael Reed Spainhour; brothers-in-law, Paul Ware, Clifford Scott and Robert (Bob) Zumwalt; and her furbaby, Duffy.
Nicki is survived by her children, Sean (Becci) Spainhour and Shannon (Steve) Du; grandchildren, Austin (Josie) Spainhour, Taylor Spainhour, and Trevor Du; great grandchildren, Ruby Spainhour and Maisie Spainhour; sisters, Barbara Ware, Janice Scott, Marlene Zumwalt; and her dog, Romeo.
She will be greatly missed.
Psalm 73:25-26
"Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
