

Norma was born on July 27, 1945 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Hoyle and Tula Connell. She spent 38 years as an executive secretary at Auto Owners Insurance Company.
She was blessed with two sons, Kevin and Rion. On June 3, 1983, she married Luther Shields, Jr. and became a stepmother to Luther Shields III. She was always very proud of her family and was overjoyed when she became a grandmother to her seven grandchildren. She had a heart for animals, especially dogs, and always enjoyed having pets. In her spare time, Norma loved to go thrifting and enjoyed vacationing at the beach. She also was a collector of Boyd's Bears and amassed quite a collection throughout her life.
Norma was proud of who she was and always attested that "I am who I am. No change, what you see is what you get". She was very generous with those she loved and was devoted to her family and faith. She believed in abiding by the Golden Rule and always strived to have a relationship with Jesus. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Mint Hill and was active in her church community. Norma will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her sons, Richard Kevin Shields and Luther Anderson Shields III.
She is survived by her husband, Luther Anderson Shields, Jr.; her son, Michael Rion Shields; grandchildren, Taylor Shields, Zach Shields, Madison Shields, Macy Shields, Mariah Shields, Katelyn Shields and Lindsay Carpenter; great grandchildren, Benton, Kiara, Ellie Mae, Cayden, Paxton, and Liam; brother Franklin Connell; nephews, Wesley Connell and Brian Connell.
