Peggy was born on February 12, 1930, in Newton, North Carolina, to the late Forrest and Eloise Hammett. Peggy graduated Harding High School and spent her career working at Independence High School and McEwen Furniture and Hardware. She was a dedicated employee who made an impact with those she worked with and those she served.
Peggy married the love of her life, Bobby Tanner, and together they shared 67 years. They had three beautiful children, Ronnie, Sheila, and Resa. She cherished any opportunity to spend time with her family and was overjoyed when she became "Mama Tanner" and "D" to her grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Peggy was an active member at Harvest Community Church and valued her church family.
Peggy will be greatly missed amongst her family and friends. The family would like to send their sincerest gratitude to John, Jenna, Riley, Jack, and Kate for graciously opening up their home to take such good care of Peggy during the last four months of her life.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Bobby Tanner; her sisters, Elaree Hearn and Eloise Lowery; Peggy is survived by her children, Ronnie (Gail) Tanner, Sheila (Ken) Gurley, and Resa (Mike) Travis; her grandchildren, Brian (Devon) Gurley, Kelley (Davin) Scites, Jenna (John) McDonnell, Tanner Benton, Blair (John) Castator, and Matt Tanner; great-grandchildren, Jackson (Taryn) Gurley, Justin Gurley, Jay Gurley, Julianna Gurley, Brody Scites, Kenley Scites, Riley Frazier, Jack McDonnell, Kate McDonnell, and Lucas Castator; and great-great grandchildren, Grayson and Lillian Gurley.
