Phyllis Simpson Bailey

Phyllis Bailey, 84, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. Born on July 2, 1941, she grew up in the Charlotte area and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1959. From her earliest years, Phyllis carried a spirit defined by three simple but powerful words: loving, family‑oriented, and selfless. These qualities shaped every chapter of her life and every relationship she touched.

Phyllis found joy in the everyday pleasures that made life rich—music that lifted her heart, dancing that made her feel free, puzzles that kept her sharp, and television shows that made her laugh. She loved to travel, to read, to enjoy a good meal out, and she held a special affection for gospel music, which spoke to her soul. Her hobbies were reflections of her curiosity, her warmth, and her appreciation for life’s simple gifts.

Above all, Phyllis will be remembered for her loving and caring nature. She was the kind of person who made others feel seen, supported, and cherished. Her family was her greatest pride, and she poured her heart into every role she held—mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She is survived by her children, Pamela Bailey Donovan and Robert Wayne Bailey (Laura); her grandchildren, Nathaniel Paul Donovan (Marissa) and Daryl Wayne Bailey; and her great‑grandchildren, Simon Rhys Donovan and Kahlan Bailey. Phyllis is also survived by her siblings Rebecca (Becky) Rowell (Bruce), Jeanette Simpson, and Barbara Sinclair (Don); her nephew Dean Rowell; her niece Cindy Weatherman (Rick); and her great‑niece Meredith Weatherman.

Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and unwavering love. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, located at 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC 28227, on February 18, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm.

A graveside service will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212, on February 18, 2026, starting at 2:00 pm.
