Robin Dale McLaughlin, 57, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on January 4, 2024. She was born on November 14, 1966, in Charlotte, at Presbyterian Hospital. Robin's life was a shining example of humility, gratitude, and respect for all beings.
A sweet, loving, warm, and compassionate soul, Robin had a servant's heart and always made time for those in need. With childlike wonder, she embraced life as an ever-unfolding adventure, eagerly seeking knowledge and growth each day. Robin's two greatest loves were her cherished child, KC, and the power of music, which resonated deeply within her.
Robin is survived by KC Norton, as well as her mother, Shirley Lawson McLaughlin and KC’s father, Ken Norton, all of Charlotte . She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss her. She was preceded in death by her father, James Wright McLaughlin “Jim”, and her brother, Keith Thomas McLaughlin.
She attended Newell Elementary School and West Charlotte High School, where she cultivated the foundations of her character. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Music from Queens University of Charlotte, a Master of Arts from New York University, and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. These academic achievements were not merely accolades but tools Robin used to enrich the lives of those she encountered.
In her career, Robin dedicated herself to the healing arts of music therapy and social work. With over 30 years of clinical experience, she embodied the values of empathy and compassion. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC), Robin utilized psychotherapy, music therapy, and expressive arts therapy techniques to help her clients overcome adversity and find solace amidst life's trials. Her work was an example of her unwavering commitment to empowering others and guiding them towards their personal best.
While Robin's life was filled with purpose and dedication to her work, she also found joy in simple pleasures and cherished moments with loved ones. Summers spent in Virginia, nestled amidst the mountains at her grandparents' home, held a special place in her heart. These visits were filled with laughter, fond memories, and deep connections with her extended family. Back home in Charlotte, musical jam sessions and family reunions brought her closer to her cousins, creating harmonies that resonated with love and shared heritage.
Throughout her life, Robin found spiritual nourishment at Back Creek Church, a sanctuary that shaped her and provided a sense of belonging. She spoke of the impact and experiences the church had on her spirit. As a teenager, she was an active member of the "Back Creek Girls" Club, forging lifelong friendships rooted in faith and shared values.
