Ronald Johnston

Mr. Ronald V. Johnston, 87, of Harrisburg NC, passed away January 31, 2017. Ronald was born in Binghamton, NY to the late Clinton W. and Bessie Johnston. He served in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1948 - 1952, before and during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by IBM, retiring after 31 years of service, and was a lifetime member of the Vestal, NY Volunteer Fire Department.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Ronald was loved by all his family and many friends. He was an avid gardener and handyman, spending hours on special projects in and around the house. He delighted in assisting anyone who needed his help. During his membership with the Blair Road Methodist Church, Ronald enjoyed serving on the building team and helping those less fortunate.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Joyce Johnston; children Anne (Fr. Theodore) Haverson, William (Suzanne) Johnston, Donna Brisco (Michael Colwell), Scott Tolbert, Michelle (Scott) Austin, Brett (Lynde) Thornton; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Johnston and his sister, Mary Jane Smith.

A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, from 1-2pm at McEwen Funeral Service, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
