

Ruth K. Gunter, 85, of Matthews, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, after an extended illness. She was born July 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Rev. Charles F. Kyles and Ida Fink Kyles.
Ruth graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with a B.S. in Home Economics Education. She was married in 1955 to the late Henry Clarence Gunter. After 33 years of teaching, she retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in 1986.
After retirement, Ruth enjoyed her work for 12 years as a poll worker and judge in her polling precinct.
Always active in her church, she served as organist for 15 years, also serving on council and various committees. She taught Sunday school for half her adult life. Ruth helped organize the A.M. Stars, the senior group.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Rev. Lewis L. Kyles.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan E. Gunter of Matthews, North Carolina.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12905 Idlewild Road, Matthews, North Carolina 28105, at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017. The visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star Lutheran Church Building Fund, or the charity of one’s choice.
