Sandy was born on July 23, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the eldest daughter of William and Judith (Wiener) Labkoff. She graduated from Villanova University in 1986 and married Joseph Marano at the Philadelphia Naval Base Chapel in Philadelphia, PA. They have two children, Michelle and Joey, and one grandchild, Thomas Joseph (T.J.).
Sandy, with her beautiful smile, could be seen all over the Matthews community. Sandy was loved by so many and had a kindness that came from her heart and drew people into her life. Sandy loved her job at the Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity where she helped place families in need into homes. Sandy actively gave back to the Matthews Community through various organizations to include the Matthews Women’s Club, the Matthews Historic Foundation, Matthews Alive! and the Matthews Chamber of Commerce. Sandy made the world a better place for all who knew her.
Sandy is survived by her loving family; beloved husband Joe; her daughter Michelle and her husband Tom and their son T.J. of San Luis Obispo, CA; and her son Joey of Charlotte. She also leaves her parents Bill and Judy of Philadelphia, PA; sister Susie and her family of Arlington, VA. She also leaves her siblings-in-law, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She touched so many hearts and will be a blessing for all to remember.
Sandy’s family offers sincere appreciation to the doctors and medical professionals, especially Dr. Gary Frenette and the staff of Levine Cancer Institute, whose tireless efforts helped to extend and improve Sandy’s life during her 12-year battle with Breast Cancer. Thanks also, for the wide network of friends, who not only provided prayers and thoughts but also provided invaluable support as care givers throughout her illness.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:30p and will hold a service at 6:30p on Tuesday September 20, 2016 at McEwen Funeral Home, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity or the American Cancer Society.
