Boots was born July 2, 1924, in Virginia to Watkins and Minnie Irving and grew up in Charlotte. When she was three a family friend nicknamed her "Boots" after the comic strip “Boots and Her Buddies". Growing up in fourth ward she would sneak off to her Daddy's grocery store on Graham Street where she developed her sweet tooth by helping herself to various candies. When the family moved to "the river" (Lake Wylie) years of happy memories of being on the water began and is still a family tradition.
After graduating from Harding High School she became a war bride of Staff Sergeant George Howard Jones on December 7, 1942. She assisted in the war effort by working at the Charlotte Munitions Depot. She also worked many years at Addressograph Multigraph Corporation in the embossing Department. Most importantly she was a fine Christian lady loved by all who had the pleasure to know her. She was the heart of her family and set an example of how unconditional love and trust in God helps us through all of life’s bumps in the road.
Boots loved singing in church choirs. Her love for her Lord and Savior was shared with her daughters and grandchildren as she rocked them to sleep singing hymns and gospel songs. Her hobbies included flower gardening, reading, watching Turner Classic movies and enjoying activities at Wilora Lake Lodge where she was a resident.
In addition to her parents, Boots is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years and sisters, Mary William Irving and Irene Hunter. She is survived by her sister, Jo Ann Helms (Conrad, Jr.) of Charlotte; daughters, Billie Howard (Dick) of Greensboro, NC and Sarah Anne Price (Barry) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Melinda Howard Morton (Aaron), Pete Acree (Danielle) Lee Howard (Katie), Dale Price (Trish) and Eric Price; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emilie Catherine Morton, Carson Acree, Shane Jones Howard, Christopher and Ashton Price, Hope, Nathan and Nick Estevez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
