Raymond was born in Mecklenburg County on December 5, 1949 to the late Frank (Sarge) and Maude Black. He graduated from Garinger High School in 1967. He was proficient in baseball and basketball, playing both in high school. Raymond spent most of his career in veterinary sales and once retired, he spent time working (and playing) at several golf courses in Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers; Donald and Eddie Black.
He is survived by his wife, Linda McAmis Black; daughter, Lauren "Cassie" Black (Joshua) Harris; grandson, Lincoln Harris; step daughter, Robin Kratzer; step sons, Monty and Randy McAmis; siblings, Margaret (Bob) Summey, Jim (Linda) Black, Cy (Cathy) Black and Carol (Dale) Sprinkle, and several nieces and nephews.
