Bill spent his career with Massey Ferguson Tractor Company and retired in 1972. Once he retired, Bill enjoyed farming and many other adventures. His passion was caring for his wife and his cattle. Bill did a good bit of gardening, volunteered with the Mint Hill Fire Department, was a Master Mason and one of the founders, as well as a deacon and elder at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church. Both Bill and Johnnie were active with the church, devoting much of their free time to it's service.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Johnnie Yandle McWhirter in 2011 and great-granddaughter, Eden Elise McWhirter.
He is survived by his children; William (Vickie) McWhirter Jr., Gail (Johnny) Ferguson, Dwayne (Yvonne) McWhirter and Lawson (Sherri) McWhirter;
Grandchildren; Kimberly (Mark) Hartis, Shane Hartis, Jason (Ashley) Whitener, Jeromy Whitener, William (Bobbi) Whitener, Angel (Chea) Thompson, Kristen (Jobey) Thomas, Heather (Clint) Davis, Natalie (Chris) Harrington, Alex (Shyann) McWhirter, and Katie (Sean) Smith.
Great grandchildren; Zach (Ashley) Hartis, Parker Hunt, Ashley Gildersleeve, Holly, Amanda, Emily and Katelynn Hartis, Maddie and Mason Whitener, Gavin, Katherine and Sadie Whitener, Peyton Whitener, Ava Sedlak, Isabella, Elizabetta and Jobey Jr. Thomas, Graham and Corbin Davis, Hayven and Hollis Harrington, Kayden McWhirter, Easton McWhirter and Lawson Smith.
Special thanks to Bill's caregivers Michelle Aiken, Evie Hodge and Barbara Jones; who lovingly took care of Mom and Dad for many years.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will be at Evergreen Burial Park in Mint Hill, North Carolina.
