Zachery James Misiak of Charlotte, North Carolina, was born on July 25, 1978, and passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 47 after an incredibly brave battle with ALS. Zach faced life and his illness with grit, humor and a strength that inspired everyone who knew him.
Zach was many things: a loving and devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, a confident and rugged outdoorsman, and a generous protector of the people he loved. He was charismatic by nature and a born storyteller, often found wearing his signature fedora while holding court with a great story and an even better laugh. His sense of humor was legendary, and his heart of gold shone through in everything he did.
A die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Zach brought the same passion to football Sundays as he did to the grill or kitchen. He loved to cook, loved to host, and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, whether you were family, a close friend, or someone he’d just met. Time spent around Zach usually meant good food, laughter, and feeling like you belonged. Above all, Zach will be remembered for his love for his son and wife, his fierce loyalty to his family and friends, and the joy he brought into every room. His confidence never crossed into ego, his toughness was balanced with deep kindness, and his generosity knew no limits.
Zach is survived by his beloved son, Roman Misiak; his wife, Sandy Misiak; his parents, Barry and Susan Misiak; his sister, Mandy Paysor and family; and his three stepchildren. While he is deeply missed, his stories, laughter, and love live on in all who were lucky enough to know him.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Zach’s honor to the Joe Martin ALS Foundation or the ALS United NC.
A memorial gathering will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, located at 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227 on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Everyone is encouraged to wear their best "Steelers" gear.
