

Fern Madeline Lowman Olin, 98, passed away peacefully November 18, 2025. Born in 1927 to Hovey and Nadine Lowman, Fern was one of seven children. When she was 18, on November 4, 1945, she married James Olin and together they had four children; Janet, Vernon, Wilma and Robert. Fern enjoyed working as part of the kitchen staff at the local elementary school and the School of Mines. After retiring, she served at the Westminster Senior Center for many years. Fern was gifted at quilting and often her and Jim would set up and sell her quilts outside of Mont Rose, CO. She also loved gifting her quilts to friends and family. Fern enjoyed spending time with her people while camping, fishing, cooking, gardening, reading and playing cards.
In November of 2019, Fern moved from Westminster, CO to Ootlewah, TN to live with her son Vernon and daughter-in-law Mickey. She lived with Vernon until May of 2024 when she became a resident of Morning Point at Greenbriar due to Vernon’s health journey. She remained at Morning Point enjoying her daily interactions and activities with the staff and residents as well as visits from family until she passed.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, James Olin; her four children, Janet, Vernon, Wilma, and Robert; her siblings, Velma, Beatrice, Stella, Myrta, Robert, and Lola Mae; her granddaughter Cindy.
Fern is survived by two daughters-in-law, Mickey(Vernon) and Donna(Robert); five grandchildren, Wayne, Brad, Monica, Nick, and Kenny; and 9 great grandchildren.
A small memorial will be held Monday November 24, 2025 at 3pm. It will be held at Morning Pointe of Greenbriar, 9650 Leyland Drive Collegedale TN 37363.
For the out of town family and friends, at Fern’s request we will bring her to Colorado to be laid to rest with James at a later to be determined date.
