Gail was born and raised in White Plains, New York. She spent most of her adult life in Southwest Florida. She was a retired Respiratory Therapist.
During her retirement she enjoyed volunteering. She enjoyed dressing in character, some of her favorites being Mrs. Santa Claus and Cat in the Hat. She had the privilege of portraying Mrs. Henry Ford at the Edison Ford Museum in Fort Myers, Florida. Her favorite food was ice cream.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Amelia Van Tassel; and brother Robert Van Tassel.
Surviving are her daughter, Laurie (John Woods) Steurer; son, Brett (Stacey) Steurer; and niece Jill (Paul) Lukenovich.
