Georgia was born on April 30, 1941 at her grandparents’ home in Newport, Cocke County, Tennessee. She was the only child of Beatrice Talley Stephenson and Virgil Garrett Stephenson.
When Georgia was a young girl, her family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1940s as part of a worker migration from the South to pursue industry opportunities in the Northern United States. She enjoyed her time attending school, participating in choir, drama and swimming activities and making many friends along the way. She was a past member of the International Order of Job’s Daughters.
In 1958, through friends, she met, dated and eventually married David Wesley Wolfe. Together, they began building a family. In 1971, Georgia, David, and their young family moved back to Tennessee, where she lived in the Chattanooga area for the last 50 years of her life. As you can imagine, there was never a dull moment raising 8 sons and 1 daughter involved in too many activities and sports to mention. As her children grew up and started their own families, she found great joy and strength in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, regularly gathering the family for fun occasions and holiday festivities. She lovingly remembered every name and birthday over the years and became famous for her unique gifts for every child, grandchild and great-grandchild.
In 1961, following the faith tradition of her mother, Georgia was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she began a lifelong journey of spiritual growth and Christian service. She worked in many teacher and leadership roles, and she and her husband David served several years as full-time missionaries in Singapore, Malaysia and later Sacramento, California. She placed great value on the friendships and relationships she enjoyed while serving in her church throughout her entire adult life.
Georgia is survived by her husband, David Wesley Wolfe, and all of her 9 children, 38 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.
