

Larry Edwin "Burr" Varnell, 77, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away on February 26, 2026, in Chattanooga TN. Born on November 30, 1948, in Chattanooga, Larry spent his life deeply connected to the community he called home.
Larry was a devoted husband to his wife, Gwen, and a proud father to his three sons: Michael, Stephen, and Paul. He was also blessed with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, daughters-in-laws & nieces who brought immense joy to his life. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Carzell and Granville Varnell, as well as his sister, Glenda.
A man of many passions, Larry found great enjoyment in fishing and cheering on his favorite sports teams. He was an avid fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and followed their athletic programs with unwavering enthusiasm. Football and basketball were particularly close to his heart—whether watching games on television or attending them in person, he relished every moment. NASCAR racing & his truck driving career also held a special place in his life. He rarely missed watching a race on the television.
Larry graduated from Tyner High School in Chattanooga class of 1966. His love for sports extended beyond mere fandom; it was a way for him to connect with others and share in the excitement of competition. His presence at family gatherings and among friends was always marked by warmth and camaraderie. Loved by many, Larry's absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 3, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM at Chattanooga Funeral Home 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga TN 37421. All are welcome to join.
